2020: The Year of the SB Dunk

What do you think of when you hear Travis Scott + Sneakers? Jordans? SB Dunks? The new rap/sneaker mogul ,partnered with NIKE for a wide variety of sneaker releases. His Jordan 1s blew up SNKRS, but didn’t change the game much. One could argue his take on the SB dunk, and his high profile social media influence has pushed young sneaker heads to take a second look at the historic line of SB Dunks. The timing of the TS release, along with the Plums, Strangelove x Nike, and the rise of retros, like the Night of Mischief , Walk the Dogs, etc. is making it look like the SB Dunk is on the rise once again. without supplements from Skate culture.

The SB Dunk drops of 2020 seem to be loaded, implying that Nike is pushing for this comeback, and it may not be the culture that’s pushing for it, rather the company pushing the old line with the rise of competitors like YZY taking shape for the widespread community. It was clear that Nike pushed the Jordan 4 in 2019 with the OVO release, the BREDS, the WHAT THE 4s, so it’s no surprise the brand is pushing yet another model, with a little help of its biggest influencer that isn’t a big name athlete. The surprising thing, however is that not only are new releases highly anticipated, rather that old models are popping up seemingly everywhere on Ebay, StockX, Goat, etc. The resale prices are astronomical considering the timeline of the hype, with color ways like the Walk the Dog, are up nearly $200 in certain sizes.
