Why I Copped The Stranger Things x Nike “Upside Down” Collection
I’m not big on uncomfortable, narrow fitted, retro Nike shoes like the Tailwind, Blazer and Cortez, but this pack got my attention because of the ill launch and the way Nike has really in-braced this whole distressed shoe or distressing your own shoe fad.
The first distressed shoe that caught my attention was the Jordan 1 Nigel Sylvester in 2018. It looked like trash, but was kind of fire. Then there was the Sean Wotherspoon x NIke ‘Air Max 1/97 SW. This wasn’t marketed as a “distressed” shoe, but the more it was broken in and worn, the more fire it looked. And I’m not an Air Jordan guy, but don’t the 1’s look fresh new or old?
Either way, this distressed shoe look ain’t so bad.
Fast forward to 2019 and we’ve got SB x AJ1 LA to Chicago that you can distress on your own to customize your look by rubbing off colors to expose reds, blacks, purples and yellows. And if you’re fancy enough to shop at Nordstrom you can cop all types of overpriced Nike, Adidas, Puma & Reebok silhouette rips from their “Distressed Shoes” catalog… Yes, this store has a department for distressed shoes.
Any hoots, back to this Stranger Things pack. I copped a pair of the Tailwind & Cortez models. I think in time these will gain some value as we see some people (celebs hopefully) set them on fire or take sand paper to them to uncover the Stranger Things fun and raw blue denim under that already lovely all Sail color upper.
We’ll see though…
What do you think of this latest Stranger Things x Nike Collection?
